Buyers of MBM2 may notice that the RTC battery is not pre-installed. The reason for that is to increase the shelf-life of the battery.

It is not mandatory to install the RTC battery. Its role is to allow the RTC to maintain time-of-day while MBM2 is disconnected from power. MBM2 boots automatically and preserves BIOS settings regardless of the battery.

Compulab received feedback from MBM2 owners that prefer the battery to be pre-installed. Since MBM2 is ordered at a high rate, battery aging is not a problem.

Therefore, future production of MBM2 will have the battery pre-installed during production.
