How to enable watchdog

Post by faceless »

Hi all

How do I load the watchdog in Linux on a Fit-PC4? The sbp_fitpc2_wdt module doesn't seem to apply for this hardware. Is there a BIOS setting, or a particular kernel module I have to load?

Cheers... Mike

Definitely sbp_fitpc2_wdt will not fit to fit-PC4, as these are different products and run on different platforms (Intel/AMD).

Will find out with our Linux expert...

fit-PC4 and fitet watchdog functionality in Linux is similar.
Please refer to "Watchdog in Linux" link, where you can find explanation about the operation and installation instructions:

First, you have to download and install fitlet kernel package (also suitable to fit-PC4), following the instructions:

Hmm. I'm a bit reluctant to run a custom kernel but I really need the watchdog (due to a rubbish power supply trigger occasional CPU freezes), so will give this a try.

Can I make a couple of requests? First, could you perhaps look into rolling this as a package supplying this as an external kernel module. I see it patches sp5100_tco so this might not be possible, but if you haven't looked into it already, perhaps you could.

Second, I assume this has been submitted for mainline kernel inclusion - if you could port a reply here when it is included, myself (and anyone else who is following the thread) will be notified and I can go back to the mainline.

And thanks. I realise the above sounded a bit ungrateful, but I genuinely appreciate the quick response.

I will speak with the Linux engineer about your requests.
Indeed, it has been submitted for mainline kernel inclusion in future version. For notification of this kind please follow fit-PC software updates page:
