Installing drivers for win7

How do you tell which ones are needed? For instance, there are two for ethernet, and others where the function isn't obvious (ME).

Also, the serial port drivers are in the ME file which must be installed using Update Driver.

I didn't understand what you meant about how to install the ME driver. Is this some feature of Windows?

I should say that I have very little experience with Windows, being generally a Linux user.

Yes, they should put some instructions somewhere where people can clearly see what to do. I am just a user and I have problems installing the video driver on my IntensePC. Browsing the forum I found that post that helped me install the drivers on the weekend.

The "Update Driver" is a menu option if you right-click a device in Device Manager. The Serial port in my case showed two devices with a yellow question mark icon. Right-click on one of them and select "update driver". In the dialog box, navigate to the folder where the unzipped files from the download are, and Windows will select the appropriate driver.

Installation of the video driver (32 bit) failed, with a typically uninformative Windows message.

I also tried using Update driver, but it says the video driver is up to date. The video "hardware" that appears there looks like some generic thing, with no GP or anything like that.

How should I proceed?

When i follow these instructions to identify the hardware:

I see "Standard VGA graphics adapter" rather than the expected
Intel (R) HD Graphics 4000

Also, under "Device manager", the display appears as a "Generic PNP Monitor"

As you can see, for the time being I'm using 32-bit Windows, but I hope eventually to get 64-bit Windows and make the most of the hardware.

... does that look to you as though all is as it should be?

As I see, you are trying to use a 8GB of a system memory on a x32 system. You will not be able to use more then 3 GB of it ... Win7 x64 will let you to take advantage of all the 8GB of the memory

I don't understand. The problem is with the video. Please see my previous post, the screenshot you requested, and the output from lspci using Linux on another partition. That looks to me as though everything is fine there, but in Windows, it isn't, the video driver doesn't work.

Please see also the post I originally made describing the problem, to which you replied requesting the screenshot.

To be doubly clear: installation of the (32 bit) video driver fails.
