Bigger Inside than Outside?

Post by vtailor »

I was doing a very large download using the Compulab fit pc2 z530 with 1 gigabyte of ram, and typing the 'free' command yielded 82 megabytes of free ram. So, I turned on the web browser, and the 'free' command yielded something like 350 megabytes of free ram. In other words, on distributions like Slackware 14.1, there is more there than meets the eye. Now, if someone can figure out how to turn off the automatic screen saver.

Has anyone noticed that mouser.com in Texas, USA, is carrying an Intel SoC with what they think is the preferred newest atom inside? It sells for around $50 in wholesale lots. That ought to mean that Intel has some pre-engineered computer board layouts available that would take advantage of the SoC as a desktop/industrial machine. Using the latest Compulab ARM box to house this board would give it a sleek look and allow for lots of USB ports and choice of ram.
