One thing to note about mSATA devices from a hardware point of view,
is that the SATA controller may be I, II or III but the PCIe/mSATA switch
device may not be capable of higher performance. Meaning, their is an
IC electronic switch between the PCIe/mSATA socket and the 2 controllers,
(PCIe & SATA).

So your tests getting SATA II speeds, (3Gbps), sound reasonable. But
unless the electronic switch works at 6Gbps speed, you may not get it to
work at SATA III speeds, (6Gbps).

I did some research on mSATA, (as that would be my preferred OS disk
when I get a fit-PC3), and the Wikipedia article is pretty decent;

Wrong. I get SATA II on the mSATA drive. And when you say "officialy" you must be talking about Compulab personel only because the rest of the world is using/selling SATA III 6 Gps mSATA drives. Since the begining in 2009 mSATA support SATA I and II.

And why did Igor told me this on another thread: "...although we have not tested explicitly the SATA channel connected to mSATA, it is the same controller. So the BIOS fix should apply to mSATA as well."

As a customer I get the feeling that I am paying a high price for being your beta tester.

Jean
Hello Jean

The only reason of stating officially SATA I support, is because of the mux hardware revision on the miniPCI port. The mux is responsible of switching between the PCI and the mSATA devices. The new hardware revision of the mux supports SATA II. So, as it seems, you have the new version of the mux, that's why you have a SATA II support.

Hello there,

I have read on a related post that fit-PC 3 is currently transitioning from revision 2.2 to 2.3, which adds support for SATA II with mSATA modules. So I realise it might be rather early to be asking this question, but none the less, I am interested to know if there are any plans to do another revision to eventually support SATA III with mSATA modules?

Thank you very much for your help

Andy

The mSATA III design is not scheduled yet. Sorry
