graphics driver poulsbo gma500 for Slackware 14.0

Post by larse »

Last month I got a fitpc2 -bought 2011- from a friend.
He had installed Windows7, Mint9 and Slackware14.0, the latter used as a server (SMS-2.0.7-version). -I remember his first comments about the Slackware install in 2013 that he could not make the graphics working due to no drivers. At first 2014 he got the graphics working.

Now when I booted up the fitpc2 for the first time I noticed that the best resolution I was able to set was 800x600@86 Hz, same in Mint. In Slackware he used the vesa driver, in Mint the emgd. Also noticed he had blacklisted the gma500 driver in Slackware. Since he was a very skilled Slackware user I assume he made the blacklist for some specific reason. (later I can add: I tried the gma500_gfx myself: It made me not even being able running Slackware in run level 3!)
I can push the video reolution to 1280x1024 through editing xorg.conf, but with the loss of Refresh rate, that is Refresh rate is locked at 0 Hz.

I know this by now is a somewhat "old" question, but is there any way to get a better 2D resolution in Slackware14.0 for this fitpc2?

Some information about my hardware
