white screen

Post by wcwallace2innm »

When I boot up I get:
1. a choice between Ubuntu normal and maintenance mode.
2. after selecting normal bootup, I get a normal Ubuntu splash screen with a boot progress bar which moves normally
3. Upon completion, screen goes blank (black) after a while it settles on gray and finally stops on pure white.

If I act as if the normal gdm screen is there and enter the default user name and password, the disk light acts as if I had logged in.

I can login using ssh

I logged in on maintenance mode and redid the X configuration. No change.

What might be wrong?

It`s a known issue.
Seems that on some specific monitors kernel drm module read corrupted modeline with display timings.

Need to patch drm kernel module with additional modeline validation checks to remove such modelines.

Please report your display name and attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log just after
screen getting black. You can fetch it using ssh.

Another funny thing you can do is to boot fit-PC2 with some working display, and after succesfull login just unplug HDMI cable and plug it in your non-working display.
