Default Ubuntu 8.04 installation - Visual effects

Post by noone »

Hi,

I recently received my Fit-PC2 with Ubuntu 8.04 preinstalled. I am trying to enable the Visual Effects from the Desktop Settings (I assume this means starting Compiz or something like that) but I get a message that Visual Effects cannot be enabled. Does the graphics chip on the Fit-PC support this? If so, is there a way I can enable it on Ubuntu 8.04 or on later Ubuntu versions (I would prefer not to go through the whole 8.04->8.10->9.04->9.10 upgrade process, and I would also prefer not to do a fresh install of 9.10).

Unrelated. Since Ubuntu 10.04 is an LTS version, will I be able to upgrade from 8.04 to 10.04 directly? Will Compulab support this?

Thanks.
