Overheating even with heat-sync

Post by mike8itall »

I have a FitPC2i with an 80gb hdd. I am only running IPCop for an operating system. Nothing very harsh on the processor. And shouldn't be too much to run a streaming movie or two through a Gig capable LAN.

The unit froze on me several times now, and has been super hot when it did. I have the heat-sync already installed. Bought them together.

Since it started freezing up, I pointed an oscillating fan towards it. Now it stays completely cold to the touch.

It doesn't freeze up near as much now, but still does at least once a day.

Any suggestions? Drivers for Linux? Power management add ons?

Since freezing still occurs at all when the system is not running hot, there must be another reason for the freezing which may be hardware or software related.
Some hardware problems exhibit themselves more frequently when the system is running hot. I suggest to run exhaustive memtest on both cold and hot system.
If the system is in good working order no errors should be reported.
