Ubuntu and the ?new? RTL81817 wireless lan - wlan

We have 2 versions of the fit-pc2 here. One 1.6 GHz and one with 1.1 GHz both with WLAN and Ubuntu 9.04.

We have the WLAN on the 1.6 Version running fine now (WPA) but we can't get the 1.1 GHz to work (WPA) needed.

The driver seem to crash badly...?

1.) We have to bring the wlan0 up first (as sudo)
2.) iwlist scan won't work as normal user (only as sudo) - 1.6 version does it 'limited' in normal user mode.
3.) It is possible to lock the device up by doing an iwlist scan that you can't even switch the pc off in a normal manner (Deconfiguring network interfaces... stays on forever).

Any ideas?

OK, I will write an answer to myself...

Since it looks that the WLAN might be still subject to change in future fit-PC2 versions??? We decided to get a card, what is brilliantly supported by Linux - the INTEL 4965AGN chipset.
Works straight out the box!

I hope that the guys might even ship teir pc's 'natively' with that wireless card...

Wireless cards have not changed since introduction. In the fit-PC2-C1100 the Realtek adapter is designated by WR, in the fit-PC2-C1600 the RaLink adapter is designated by W.
