Mintbox3 FACE Module

Post by Ramon.Gandia »

On Mintbox3, Pro, my face module has TWO usb ports and a type C port.
The two full size ports have the blue tab, as they should.

Problem is, the blue tab is centered on the opening, and you can put a
USB stick in either way.

Three times now I put a USB stick in the wrong way.

When you do, it shorts out. Sparks come out, and the computer shuts
down. The power supply has to be unplugged from the wall to "reset" it.

Downright scary.

So far, it has come up with everything working.

Anyone else have this problem? Do I need a replacement Face Module?

Hi,
Do you mean the default FMAT3 card that gives some extensions to the front panel?
Take a look at my Airtop3 (in general the MintBox3 is the same)

I don't see here any visible problem with placement of blue tab inside of the port.
Can you please send mail to support (fitpcsupport@compulab.co.il) with some photos from the panel?

That is the exact panel the Mintbox3 has.

On the upper one, the blue tab is almost centered; maybe
bent to the left a bit. The bottom one is decidedly to the right
of center.

I powered off.

Inserted a stick on the upper one the proper way. It slides in with
little effort.

If I turn the stick backwards, it goes in about 1/4 of the way and then
doesn't go any further.

Alas, 1/4 of the way is enough to short the USB.

On the bottom one, as well as the ones in the rear, there were no
issues. It was impossible to get the stick started.

I put a piece of tape over the upper one as a reminder to be careful.
It is not often I need both front jacks, so for now I will favor the bottom one.
