Flaky BIOS behavior on MIntbox Mini

Post by oakpatch »

I just bought a mintbox mini, and while sometimes it boots fine, at other times it instead tries to boot from the network with the Intel Boot Agent (and returns an error). It is unpredictable when it decides to do that. I tried turning off the Intel Boot Agent by going into the BIOS and turning off PXE, but what happens when I do that is that now, on random occasions, it will take me directly into the BIOS instead of booting, and when this happens and I try to exit it just loops back into the BIOS so that I can't exit the BIOS without just shutting off the computer. Turning the computer off and back on will eventually cause it to boot correctly. This behavior seems completely random.

The BIOS appears to have been built in July so it is fairly recent, but I don't see anything on the website for BIOS updates for a Linux computer. So any help would be greatly appreciated. The computer works great when it boots up, but I am concerned about these failures to boot up correctly.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

fitlet is a standard mini PC so it should operate as any PC on the market and there is no problem to shut it down manually or any other way. The behavior you describe definitely not normal but I doubt it is HW related.

Please reset the BIOS to its initial factory values as described here:

In most cases it should help. Also, please check you have the latest BIOS otherwise update:
