I'm looking at a Fit-PC2 as a remote server that I can access by remote desktop. Do I need a Keyboard / Monitor / Mouse or will it just operate as a box.

It will operate without a problem. You would still need keyboard, mouse and monitor for OS installation of course. If you intend to use Windows XP, then install IEGD driver and not GMA500 driver (GMA is not good without monitor).

With Ubuntu GNU/Linux, you can remote access your fit-pc2 server through SSH
(after having installed "openSSH" on your fit-pc2 server).
On your client computer, type :

Code: Select all

ssh -X your_fitpc_ip_address
You can also remote access your fit-pc2 server throuh XDMCP
(after having activated "remote connection" on your fit-pc2 server).
On your client computer, go into console mode (CTRL+ALT+F1) and type :

Code: Select all

X -query your_fitpc_ip_address
No keyboard, no mouse, no screen, no worries.

I have this HW as a server also. Win2003 server.
I use RealVNC as remote controller. I also have GMA500 drivers, not the other one, and this works like a charm. Though I have DVI connected this to my TV set, diNovo mini keyboard to use FireFox... :o
