Mintbox 2 USB3 ports running very slow

Hi to anyone out there,
I'm running a dual boot system with Windows 10 and Linux Mint 19.3 with a 256GB internal SSD and 16GB RAM.
The USB3 ports on my Mintbox2 are running very slow, max read/write to an SSD is around 45MB/s on both Windows 10 (CrystalDiskMark6 results) and also running LM19.3 (gnome-disks results)
The same SSD plugged in to the USB2 ports of the mintbox2 runs at around 29 MB/s
The SSD provides >450MB/s when plugged into my laptop USB3 port so I know it's OK.
I've searched for any driver updates but nothing found.
I've been using the USB3 ports to connect external 5400 RPM harddrives for several years and never actually checked the USB3 performance. Now I need to speed up the external storage so I bought an external SSD to do the job. This is when I discovered the slow USB3 speeds.
Anyone any ideas as to what's going on please?
Thanx hopefully
