Re: Enabling wireless using command line
Network Manager didn't show any of the local access points whereas "iwlist scan" showed them loud and clear! I had a lot of trouble trying to disable wireless when I was working with a wired connection (see my other mail). Perhaps all the enabling and disabling upset Network Manager! It should be po...

Re: Enabling wireless using command line
So I commented out the RT2860STA module name in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to allow the wireless driver to be linked at boot, used rcconf to likewise allow GNOME to be started up at boot, connected my screen, keyboard, mouse and radio antenna and waited expectantly. Unfortunately no sign of any wirel...

Re: Enabling wireless using command line
Thanks, Gareth. I had a feeling that that was the Hobson's choice!

Enabling wireless using command line
Fit-PC2, Ubuntu 8.04LTS. I would like to start using the RT2860STA module and wireless hardware provided and work wirelessly. I prefer to work at the command line. Having spent far too many hours trying to understand /etc/network/interfaces and the RT2860STA.dat file and the difference between iwcon...

Re: fit-pc2 (ubuntu) and wifi
From the command line: identify the driver module name by running "sudo lshw -C network" then editing "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist" and adding "blacklist <module name>" to the end of the file. On my Fit-pc2 running Ubuntu 8.04lts "<module name>" is "rt3090sta". Now reboot the system. The wireless hard...

Re: regular system hanging
Thanks Denis, that's what I was saying. Didn't want to push the detail unless someone asks!

Re: regular system hanging
I think I'm close to a remedy. I am using the computer via an SSH terminal on another system. The Fit-PC2 is connected to my network using its ethernet port. I feel that there could be some interference with the unused wireless link causing the system to hang. There is no physical way to switch wire...

regular system hanging
I believe this is software and not hardware. I have two Fit-pc2s (one is ON type). I use them as command-line systems using SSH to experiment with Ubuntu Linux: i.e. only external connection other than power line is an ethernet cable. At my place in France the boxes ran without problem from the time...

Thanks for the guidance and I did as you suggested. But no acknowledgement as yet.

regular system hanging on fit-pc2-on
I have two FIT-PC2s one is the 'ON' type that auto boots on power interrupt. Both are running Squid (very standard and simple config) and have identical software setups. One of the machines has never hung in the three months since receiving it. The "ON" one has now hung three times in the past month...
