Re: USB Hard Drive Spindown Issue
No, it does not reassign its device. My knowledge of linux is limited so I can't tell you how to fix this. I'm sure there are plenty of forum posts discussing this. To check if my devices indeed did a spindown, I just listened to them :) I'm wondering how your script works to check for 5 minutes of...

Re: USB Hard Drive Spindown Issue
Thanks. Does your drive reassign its device (For example from /dev/sdb to /dev/sdc) upon spin-up? How do you check the spin status? Another USB drive of mine would tell me the status with hdparm -C, but this one doesn't. I suppose I could go pick it up and see if it's spinning... Thanks again for th...

USB Hard Drive Spindown Issue
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question to, but you have been so helpful so far that I thought I would give it a try. I have a script that spins down my USB hard drive after 5 minutes of activity using: sg_start --stop --pc=2 /dev/device I confirm that the device is down with: ...

Disabling power to WLAN.
Hello. I know that this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find a good answer. I would like to shut the power off to the WLAN adapter, and since there is no BIOS option for this, I was wondering if there is another way of doing this. I'd like to save the power, and also eliminate these e...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Freezes when many files copied to SAMBA share
Thank you. This did fix the issue. Can you elaborate on what the actual problem is? I'd rather not have to turn off power management. Under 9.04 this didn't seem to be an issue.
I appreciate the help...

Ubuntu 9.10 Freezes when many files copied to SAMBA share
I have a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10. I followed all directions and am having the following issue. When copying a large number of files (large or small files) to or from a Samba share, the system freezes. It's running headless at the moment, but the system stops responding on the network. I also...

Ubuntu 8.04 won't Shutdown, but it will reboot
I have a new Ubuntu 8.04 installation, and I have noticed that I cannot shut the machine down. I'm running it headless, and when I attempt to shut it down (shutdown now), it never powers off, and the machine remains pingable, but I cannot ssh into it. Rebooting the box works like it should. I know t...
